Oxford Foodie Revolution
I entered the world of food only in January 2010 and what I found was a tragedy. London foodies have the tastings; the master classes; the selected menus, and; the events. Oxford, I discovered, has few of these. And when it does, they are under-publicised or for a privileged few.
I say it is time for change.
I say it is time to bring the people to the food. To bring the people into the kitchens. To create the tastings. To put on the events. To flavour the wonderful produce Oxfordshire has to offer.
We have the restaurants. We have the chefs. We have the foodies. Now we need the interaction; we need to build the community and become a movement.
The time has come to share the food like it has never been shared before in Oxford.
It is time for the revolution to begin!

We have some fellow revolutionaries and right now, plotting is under way. At the moment the count includes myself and Max Mason ; creator of the Big Bang and the Oxford Jazz festival – but we need more of you!
I’ve listed the local Oxford restaurants that are joining our ranks and will be keeping you posted on developments as well as any ‘protests’ that will be mounted.
As of now, we want to create a regular, mini protest and we are hoping to build a big annual event.

It DOES sound interesting… but what is the actual aim? If the restaurants etc etc are there, then Oxford already has a food scene. You know (because we talked about it elsewhere) how allergic I personally am to idle promotion – in my books just frothing things up often destroys what is there and valuable. But this is not meant to come over as a tubload of nasty criticism. I’m genuinely interested and supportive, just have to understand where it’s going….

I know that there are restaurants and great producers in town and I want to champion them. All you need to do is spend five minutes reading through http://www.eatlikeagirl.com/ to see that there is so much that London offers the passionate foodie. That’s what I want here: having my passion satiated with great little events and our locals celebrated at (potentially…) a mini festival.
For that, I need the locals’ support and help in organising the master classes, talks, tastings etc… and I feel they deserve recognition when it’s due. I’m not getting paid for this, but hopefully my tummy will be well recompensed!

Thanks for the offer, Cristina – I will be picking brains for ideas very soon… but momentum is certainly gathering: two more chefs on board :) Only trouble is I have a wedding to plan in my spare time!
